The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, was originally the Hong Kong Polytechnic, founded in 1972. Its history can be traced back to the Hong Kong Government Senior Technical College established in 1937. In 1994, it officially gained university status and was renamed "The Hong Kong Polytechnic University." PolyU currently comprises eight main faculties, awarding approximately 5,000 bachelor's degrees and over 4,000 higher degrees annually.

PolyU's graduation ceremonies are held individually by college/department, and all are held on campus.Jockey Club ArenaThe ceremony is usually held in October or November each year. Graduates are individually introduced and taken to the stage during the ceremony, and the colored ribbons on their graduation gowns reflect the department they attended: -
